About Phonebooth
Phonebooth here. A lot of folks have asked about who I am, what I do and even where I’m from. I felt the need to create this page to dispel some of the myths and let folks get a glimpse Into the Phonebooth.
Who is Phonebooth?
My cousins, the red phonebooths you see scattered throughout the world started to pop up in the 19th century. Originally built to improve call quality and drown out background noise, phonebooths were well designed and even luxurious. Over time, phonebooths became more similar to the pay phones that we’re used to in the United States. The quality of the booth itself began to degrade…
It was indeed a sad time for phonebooths. Our friends across the pond stuck with the beautiful red phonebooths and they’re beginning to make a comeback in the US as well.
I usually reside in Cary, NC at Bandwidth.com with four other family members. Five phonebooths reside there, but I’m the original and affectionately referred to as “Big Red.” I talk to folks on Twitter and even blog and email with friends about cool new features I’m bringing out and neat ways that folks are using me. I also travel quite a bit and may even show up at the next cool event you attend…
What is Phonebooth?
Currently, there are two flavors of my products, but don’t worry…more are coming…
Phonebooth Free beta is the cloud phone system that is perfect for small businesses, freelancers and independent professionals. And when you’re all grown up, flip the switch to Phonebooth OnDemand, a full-featured office phone system with support for HD desk and conference phones.
Both are nurtured with plenty of TLC and I love to listen to my customers and try to add cool new things that they want. You can see some of those ongoing discussions at feedback.bandwidth.com.
Where did Phonebooth come from?
As many folks have experienced, your phone experience is only as good as the network you’re on. Luckily, my parents at Bandwidth have an all-IP, nationwide voice network – the FlexNetwork. From many smart minds and tons of voice and network experience, I was born. Phonebooth OnDemand launched and as it moved out of beta, Phonebooth Free was born and launched at SXSW 2010.
Now I’m growing quickly. I have a super smart team (many of them post here) and a great support structure to complement the network I’m on. Things are looking up and I’ll keep doing innovative things to make Phonebooth the best small business phone system around.
